I want my babies to have soft hair and skin! I went to petcerta and there were so many different shampoos and they are soooo expensive! Does anyone have a favorite they could recomend? Is there a human shampoo that is cheaper then doggy shampoo that keeps them soft?

Well they say to ONLY use dog shampoos on your pets coat because HUMAN shampoo will wash away all the protective oils from their skins body...
However, I also use HUMAN shampoo on my furkids...I use Pantene on them....it leaves their coats nice and fluffy and shiny and smells wonderful. PS> Also give your dogs scrambled eggs in their food 1=2 times away for a nice clean glistening shiny coat. (DONT overfeed them the eggs...too much gives them the runs~only 1 egg per dog will do about 2 times a week) Good Luck!!! How is your Female doing??? Take care of those babies... ![]() |

I'm going to try the pentene and scrambled eggs...my girls (humans lol) eat scrambled eggs once a week so i'll just make extra...my little one M.J. ( one in my photo) has been a learning experience sense we were given her 2 weeks ago! You know about her heat that I 1st thought was a rectum problem...the same night that we got back from the vet she stared crying when she went to poop...then I remember the vet commenting that she has a lot of hair on her bum! I was horrorfied to find that the poor thing couldn't poop because her rectum was cover with matted her! Well she got a good trim and I changed her food to Puppy Chow because her poop is passing o.k. but still a little to hard for my liking and adding scrambled eggs might do the trick! I couldn't keep the two apart any longer, the noise was driving my crazy, so I bought m.j. a doggie diaper last night $26.97! She doesn't mind it at all and Spidie seems to be giving up on his advances.

Oh that poor baby...she is gorgeous...yes..keeping her hair groomed and professionally trimmed and cut is the key...Also....Go to the store and get some REAL PUMPKIN in the can...NOT THE PIE filling...the can that says PURE PUMPKIN On it...Mix about 1 tablespoon of this into each of the dogs bowls and with their food and this will help them excrete better and their poops (sorry to be so gross) will be more normal. You are going to want to make her as comfortable as possible during this time. Get her hair cut very short...its only hair it will grow back..this will help when she is ready to give birth also...Keep her private area and bum area trim and clean.
The pumpkin will do the trick and help her excrete with ease. This will also help in aiding of the anal glands being extracted which is something that the vet does when my girls go in for checkups on a regular basis..You should give the dogs the pumpkin about 2=3 times a week. This also will reduce the smell from the bum and also prevent their gas from being smelly as well. Sometimes my girls smell a little fishy from down below...that is because They need to get their anal glands extracted...so I just spoon in the pumpkin with their meals and all is good in the neighborhood. The smell goes away in no time. I then store the left over pumpkin in an airtight tupperware and put in the fridge...It will stay good for up to 2 weeks inthe frige like that...just make sure you give it to them as much I recommended above. Good Luck with your pups...By the way..when is the Spidey getting fixed...this would calm him down more from bothering your little girl also. (I am not a Doctor of any sort...this information is just stricly for informational purposes) |

I have a 5 month old shih-tzu named Baxter and I used to bathe him in baby shampoo since shih tzu's tend to get eye problems very easily. It works like a charm. Johnson and Johnson has a lavender and chamomille scented shampoo that makes Baxter smell so good. Everytime he meets someone new they tell me how great he smells and how soft he feels. Since he has gotten bigger I just use which ever shampoo I have lying around, which is pretty silly since I use expensive salon shampoo, but Baxter is worth it.
No matter what you use, make sure you dilute it more than you would on your hair with water. Even hairy shih-tzus dont have enough hair to use strong shampoo. Don't use color specific shampoo, like john frieda blonde, because they can tend to contain chemicals that might burn babies skin! good luck , mine hates to be bathed![color] |

Is there a human shampoo that is cheaper then doggy shampoo that keeps them soft? Actually, the best way to keep your Shih Tzu's hair soft and smooth is to NOT bathe them at all! Shampoos only remove the natural oils that keep their hair clean, and it can make their skin dry and their coat coarse. I suggest constant brushing and very rare bathing.
