I am searching for an excellent on Shih Tzu Grooming also; particularly the clipping part. While I have been grooming my two kids for years and still learning, I sure do not know it all. I recently found a great video on www.youtube.com. I have a Wahl clippers that has been wonderful, keep extra new blades so I am never without. Have different scissors, small one with rounded ends for around the face/eyes trimming. A good nail clippers is worth its money and have on hand the septic powder should you accidentally clip a nail too short and it starts to bleed. (The video mentioned aforehand explains the nail clipping, too...well, if not the same one just look for another at that same site...I viewed too many!) I have saved much money grooming my own and I do keep their hair short..not the long, long style; they are my babies, not show dogs...they are people as their pediatrican said...lol. I use no tears baby shampoo for their face area, wash cloth and soft tooth brush around the eye and beard areas. Always shampoo them prior to clipping as the soil in their hair will dull the clipper blades and scissors very quickly. I put mine on a table (rug on top so they don't slide) and I have a noose and adjustable noose arm if/when needed. If I run into any tangles I use a Grooming Mist Plus that is awesome stuff! I use a good pet Oatmeal Shampoo and Conditioner that is great. IF you wish to bath your baby weekly or more than monthly, I use 100% Pure Aloe Gel which I learned would not dry their skin and could be used weekly without any problem. This is also a great product. I invested in a pet blow dryer and either dry them on my lap or confine them to a small area until they are 3/4's dry; works so well. I am still wanting to learn more tricks and secrets, too, to make this duty easier on us
I hope this will be of help to you and others and if you have any questions I will be happy to share my knowledge with you. Good luck! |
